Ghanaian striker Antoine Semenyo has broken his silence after being subjected to shocking racist abuse during Bournemouth’s Premier League opener against Liverpool at Anfield. The 25-year-old, who scored a stunning brace in the match, revealed that a fan in a wheelchair hurled vile slurs at him while he was preparing for a throw-in.
The incident was reported to referee Anthony Taylor, and Merseyside Police arrested the culprit, identified as Mogan, who has now been bailed for three months pending further investigations.

Speaking to ITV News, Semenyo described the abuse as “mind-boggling” and “sad”, stressing that it’s unacceptable for players to still be racially abused in 2025. He praised himself for speaking up, saying he didn’t want to hide it, and admitted the anger fueled his two goals on the night.
The striker further demanded tougher punishments for racists, including possible jail terms and lifetime stadium bans, insisting football authorities must do more to end the scourge. Semenyo has since received massive support from fans, teammates, and the wider football community.
