The spirit of unity and celebration is in full gear as six Super Eagles players have stepped up in a heartwarming show of support by donating a total of ₦24 million to the victorious Super Falcons squad that clinched the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco!
Each of the 24 Falcons players received ₦1 million from Super Eagles stars: William Troost-Ekong, Ademola Lookman, Ola Aina, Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, and Joe Aribo. The generous gesture was confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and praised as a massive morale booster for female athletes and the Nigerian girl-child.
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau hailed the donation as “unprecedented and transformative,” highlighting how the support from male counterparts and national leaders is now reshaping the future of women’s football in Nigeria.
And it didn’t stop there—President Bola Tinubu had earlier rolled out jaw-dropping rewards for the Super Falcons: a national honour (OON), a 3-bedroom home in the Renewed Hope Estate, and a whopping $100,000 (over ₦150 million) cash gift for each player.
The Governors’ Forum also added another ₦10 million reward for each player and their 11-member technical crew, further proving that women’s football is finally getting the flowers it deserves.
NFF’s Gusau concluded, “This moment will inspire the Nigerian girl-child to dream big and aim for greatness through sports and other noble paths.”
Nigerians everywhere are celebrating this landmark moment. Could this be the beginning of a new era for women’s sports in Africa?
