Popular comedian and skit maker White Olasunkanmi Barry, famously known as Son of the Prophet, has finally opened up about why he stepped away from his viral impersonations of Bishop David Oyedepo — and the reason has fans both emotional and inspired.

In an honest chat with comedian Teju Babyface, Barry revealed that while his Oyedepo-inspired skits earned him massive online attention, he was battling deep emotional struggles behind the scenes. “People would message me, saying I was cursing myself, asking, ‘Did Bishop Oyedepo approve this?’” Barry shared. “Some of the messages broke me.”

He said that though the skits made many laugh, others questioned his spiritual direction: “Some even said, ‘Why can’t you find your own path?’ And I kept thinking, what if this is my path?”

In 2024, Barry shocked fans when he announced he was retiring the character. “It wasn’t easy — but it became a personal burden. I needed peace and spiritual growth,” he confessed.

Still, he expressed deep respect for Bishop Oyedepo, clarifying that his exit wasn’t from disrespect, but from self-reflection and growth. “It was an honour walking in the steps of God’s servant,” he added.
