Nigeria is set to reel in big changes as the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, declares a bold move to end the country’s heavy dependence on imported fish! At a high-level meeting with fisheries cooperative groups in Abuja, Oyetola announced sweeping reforms aimed at boosting local fish production through policy, technical, and financial support.

He stressed that fish farming and aquaculture will now become key pillars of food security, youth empowerment, and export growth. The Ministry is also rolling out grants and support initiatives to help women and youth break into the sector.

With support from associations like CAFAN, TADAN, FCFN, and more, Oyetola says the transformation is already in motion. “We’re not just feeding Nigerians — we’re building jobs, growing the economy, and reducing unemployment,” he added.
