What was supposed to be a relaxing foot soak turned into a life-altering nightmare for Olubiyi Jibowu, a 57-year-old Nigerian man based in London. In a viral story that has shocked many, Olubiyi attempted to give himself a pedicure at home using Himalayan salt and hot water — but things went terribly wrong. Unaware of how hot the water was, he soaked his feet and only realized the severity of the burns after seeing painful blisters covering them.
Rather than seeking immediate medical help, Olubiyi relied on Dettol, hoping it would speed up the healing — a method passed down from his mother. But the situation only got worse. The skin started peeling off, turned black, and the wound refused to heal. Unknown to him, he had type 2 diabetes, which dulled his sense of pain and delayed his response.

By the time he sought help, his condition had developed into deadly sepsis. Doctors warned that the infection could spread to his organs, and the only option left was amputation. The shocking procedure took place on August 8, 2023, changing his life forever.

Now, Olubiyi is on a mission to raise funds for a titanium prosthetic leg to regain his mobility and independence. His story is a strong reminder of the dangers of self-treatment and the importance of early medical intervention.
