Nigeria’s Super Eagles have slipped one place in the latest FIFA World Rankings, dropping from 43rd to 44th globally, according to the update released on Thursday via FIFA’s official website. On the African continent, the Eagles now rank fifth—behind Morocco (12th), Senegal (18th), Egypt (34th), and Algeria (36th).

Despite recent strong performances—winning the 2025 Unity Cup in London and securing a draw against Russia in June—the team’s efforts weren’t enough to boost their global position. Rwanda, one of Nigeria’s upcoming opponents in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, climbed to 127th, while South Africa holds steady at 56th.

Historically, the Super Eagles remain Africa’s highest-ever ranked team, peaking at 5th in April 1994, a golden year that also marked their World Cup debut in the USA. Globally, Argentina maintains its No. 1 spot, followed by Spain, France, England, and Brazil.

The next FIFA World Ranking update is set for September 18, 2025.
