U.S. warns: Green Card holders with criminal past risk losing residency and facing deportation

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued a stern warning to Green Card holders, making it clear that having a criminal record could lead to serious consequences, including revocation of residency and deportation.

In a public notice shared on Tuesday, July 8, the agency emphasized that lawful permanent residency is a privilege, not a right.

CBP cautioned that individuals with a criminal past who attempt to re-enter the United States may face mandatory detention and immigration removal proceedings. “Having a criminal history does not make you an upstanding lawful permanent resident,” the statement read.

The CBP reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the American people, securing its borders, and upholding national security, warning Green Card holders that abusing U.S. laws could cost them their immigration status.
