Popular Nigerian media personality IK Osakioduwa has opened up about the deeply personal and spiritual reason behind his decision to change his surname — a move he describes as life-altering.
Speaking with actress Nancy Isime, IK shared how a visit to a military hospital with his father, a Nigerian Army officer, triggered a powerful self-reflection. “I realized I needed to stop hiding behind my father’s name and build my own identity,” he said.
Originally bearing the surname Obiara, IK began questioning its meaning after discovering its links to a deity, which clashed with his Christian beliefs. Inspired by the biblical story of Jacob’s transformation, he began searching for a name that aligned with his faith.
After four years of persistence, prayer, and silent support from his mother, he finally changed his name to Osakioduwa — meaning “God opens the door to wealth.” According to IK, the moment he embraced the new name, everything changed. “That name literally changed my life,” he revealed. “My door to wealth opened.”
