In a heartbreaking turn of events, Liverpool striker Diogo Jota, 28, and his younger brother Andre, 26, tragically lost their lives in a devastating car crash in northern Spain. The siblings were reportedly en route to Santander to catch a ferry to the UK after doctors advised Jota not to fly due to recent lung surgery.
Their £150,000 Lamborghini Urus suffered a tyre blowout while overtaking on the A-52 near Cernadilla, just ten miles from Portugal. The supercar veered off the road, rolled over, and burst into flames shortly after 12:35am, igniting surrounding vegetation. Despite the swift response from emergency services, both brothers were sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The tragic incident comes just weeks after Diogo tied the knot with his childhood sweetheart Rute Cardoso, mother of his three children, in Porto on June 22. The couple had been together since they were 16.

Jota, a key figure in Liverpool’s squad, was expected back for pre-season training on Monday. Instead, fans are now mourning a devastating loss. Emotional tributes, flowers, and scarves are being laid at Anfield, with many supporters in tears over the death of a player beloved by teammates and fans alike.
Liverpool FC described the loss as “unimaginable”, saying they are devastated beyond words.
