Global icon and Manchester United legend David Beckham has officially been knighted, securing the UK’s highest honour in King Charles’ Birthday Honours List for his phenomenal contribution to football and charity work across the globe.

Already honoured with an OBE in 2003, Beckham’s knighthood marks yet another crowning moment in a storied career that transcends football. In a heartfelt statement, Beckham expressed his gratitude, calling the moment “emotional” and acknowledging the deep pride he feels sharing it with his family.

“To have played for and captained my country was the greatest privilege of my career… I’m immensely proud and grateful to be recognised for work that gives me so much fulfilment,” he said.

Beckham, who earned 115 caps and captained England 59 times, dazzled fans in three World Cups, becoming a true legend of the game. As part of Manchester United’s historic Class of ’92, he helped secure six Premier League titles and the unforgettable 1999 treble.

His club career also included spells at Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and PSG, before retiring in 2013. Off the pitch, he’s served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2005, played a pivotal role in London’s 2012 Olympics bid, and co-owns Inter Miami CF in the MLS.

Beckham also joined The King’s Foundation in 2024, further cementing his legacy beyond the pitch.

Manchester United celebrated their former No. 7 with a touching tribute: “Massive congratulations from everyone at United on this special achievement, Becks – you truly deserve this.”

Other notable sports stars on the Honours List include Luke Littler and Luke Humphries (both awarded MBEs for services to darts), Rachel Daly (Euro 2022 winner, MBE), Alistair Brownlee (Olympic triathlete, OBE), and tennis legend Virginia Wade, who received a CBE.
