President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent a firm message to Lagos State and other subnational governments, warning against granting approvals for unauthorized islands, illegal land reclamation, and developments encroaching on road setbacks and coastal zones.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Lekki Deep Sea Port Access Road, Tinubu celebrated the successful completion of the infrastructure project—one he proudly began during his time as Lagos governor. He described the road as a game-changing legacy that will enhance logistics efficiency, lower port operational costs, and drive economic growth.

However, he condemned the rise in unregulated island creation and development along key maritime corridors, stating such actions threaten national development plans. “We must secure stable setbacks for future expansion,” he said. Tinubu emphasized that all approvals given without collaboration with the Ministry of Works and the Surveyor-General will be revoked, particularly in Lagos.

He urged governors to align their urban planning efforts with federal goals, noting that reckless expansions will no longer be tolerated.

The President also applauded the success of Lekki Port and Dangote’s refinery, calling them powerful symbols of faith in Nigeria’s economic future.
