Controversial social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), is making headlines once again — this time for taking a bold stand against what he claims is systemic corruption by NAFDAC and the Anambra State Police.
In a viral video response to recent accusations, VDM addressed backlash from both agencies after he visited a major pharmaceutical market in Anambra. He had earlier pledged solidarity with traders who alleged they were being unfairly extorted by NAFDAC officials. The agency and state police fired back, accusing him of inciting unrest — claims VDM has now strongly denied.
The outspoken commentator revealed that NAFDAC allegedly demanded ₦700,000 from each individual trader, branding many as fake drug dealers. He shared a receipt from one of the affected traders and claimed that over 1,000 merchants may have been targeted, describing it as a coordinated racket that could cripple access to medicine for ordinary Nigerians.
“If NAFDAC collects money from traders they claim sell fake drugs, doesn’t that make them an accomplice?” VDM questioned, arguing that such acts only keep counterfeit meds on the streets and endanger public health.
VDM insisted his intention was not to stir chaos but to educate and empower traders, encouraging peaceful protest as a constitutional right. He demanded a transparent investigation into the extortion claims and urged NAFDAC to come clean.
In an emotional moment, he paid tribute to the late Dora Akunyili, former NAFDAC boss, calling her a true warrior against fake drugs. He warned that if this alleged corruption continues, drug prices could skyrocket, leaving millions of Nigerians unable to afford essential medications.
