Lagos is cracking down hard on crime, and the numbers speak volumes! The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has arrested a staggering 277 suspects, including known pickpockets and street hoodlums, during a sweeping raid on criminal hideouts across the state.

According to a statement released by Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the Task Force’s Director of Public Affairs, the coordinated crackdown was led by the agency’s chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, and began in the early hours of the past week, around 1:30 a.m. The operation was based on solid intelligence reports and numerous complaints from distressed residents.

Key areas targeted include Victoria Island, Lekki Phase 1 & 2, Ikoyi, Chevron, Osborne Road, Obalende, Ikota, Eko Hotel axis, Oniru Beach, Ketu, Agege, and more. These zones have long been flagged as hotbeds for criminal activity, and this move signals a serious shift towards restoring safety and sanity in Lagos.

Akerele emphasized that the operation is just the beginning: “We are committed to securing lives, property, and the environment. This is part of our daily enforcement strategy to eliminate street urchins, illegal settlements, and criminal enclaves.”

All 277 suspects have since been charged to court in line with Lagos State laws.
