Controversial Nigerian street-pop star, Portable, has sparked heated conversations online after openly calling out the organizers of the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The singer accused the award body of deliberately sidelining seasoned actor and producer, Ibrahim Chatta, despite his outstanding performance in House of GAA, which earned him a nomination for Best Lead Actor.
Portable insisted that industry bias played a role in Chatta not winning the award, alleging unfair treatment and favoritism.
Ultimately, the award went to Femi Adebayo for his role in Seven Doors, while Chioma Chukwuka won Best Lead Actress. Portable’s bold remarks have ignited massive reactions across social media.
In a fervent video message posted on his Instagram account, Portable expressed:
“My fans, there is a gang up in the Nigerian entertainment industry, even in Nollywood. They didn’t give Ibrahim Chatta an award at the 11th AMVCA despite his impeccable acting. That was how I was also snubbed by The Headies Awards.”
Portable didn’t hold back as he blasted Nigeria’s award culture, claiming honors often go to the rich and powerful—not the truly deserving.
“We don’t need awards. We need food, we need money. We have money but we can’t use money to buy awards like some persons.
Ibrahim Chatta, if they don’t award you, God will reward you. My boss, you are my mentor. I love you,” he added.
Interestingly, this isn’t Ibrahim Chatta’s first clash with the AMVCA; in 2023, he hinted at industry conspiracies behind his consistent snubs, igniting serious debates.
