Lagos-based clergyman, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has once again sparked heated debate with his latest message about salt and health.

During a sermon on May 4, the controversial pastor told his congregation to disregard medical advice that discourages salt consumption. According to Oyakhilome, many people have suffered strokes and other illnesses because they followed doctors’ instructions to cut out salt entirely.

He backed his claims with video documentaries allegedly featuring white doctors who questioned the anti-salt narrative. The pastor emphasized that salt is not the enemy and claimed divine revelation led him to this realization through speaking in tongues. Quoting Mark 9:50, “Salt is good,” he urged his followers to embrace it, saying, “You need more salt, not less!”

Oyakhilome further stated that hospitals administer salt to patients, just under different names and packaging. His sermon has ignited a fierce conversation online, with critics warning that such advice could endanger lives by encouraging people to ignore professional medical guidance. While some supporters praised the teaching as bold truth, many health experts and social media users have called it misleading and potentially dangerous.
