Nigerian musician Ruger, whose real name is Michael Adebayo Olayinka, has revealed a surprising and deeply emotional part of his past that shaped his personal and emotional growth. During an appearance on The Bro Bants Show, the singer, known for his hit song “Toma Toma,” opened up about his first heartbreak, which he experienced at the tender age of six.

Ruger recalled how he was playfully teased by an older girl, who claimed to be his girlfriend. The situation took a painful turn when he later saw her in a more intimate setting with another man. This moment left a significant impact on him, and the trauma from that early heartbreak lingered throughout his life.

Reflecting on this painful experience, Ruger admitted that it played a role in shaping his emotional responses as he grew older. He explained that it led to some toxic behaviors during his formative years, revealing how the early heartbreak became a defining moment in his personal development. His honesty about this emotional journey has sparked conversations about how early experiences can influence long-term relationships and behavior.

He said, “The last time that I experienced heartbreak I was very very young. There was this aunty that I liked, she used to call me ‘my boyfriend.’ So, I assumed that she was my woman. I was just 6 years old.

“I got heartbroken because one day, I saw some guy smashing her through her window. The guy was tearing her up, bro. I cried. I was traumatised. I started singing ‘Imagine That’ by Styl-Plus. That was what started my toxicity. That experience broke my heart.”
