Prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Sharafudeen Raji Gbadebo, has weighed in on the buzzing conversation about religious identity, making it clear that no one can be both a Muslim and a Christian simultaneously.
The respected cleric, who heads the Al-Madeenah Islamic Center in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, made his statement shortly after Fuji music icon K1 De Ultimate, also known as Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, publicly declared his deep ties to the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC). K1 not only confirmed his membership but also revealed he had built a parish, expressing pride in his spiritual journey a revelation that has sparked massive reactions online.
“I am a proud, bona fide member of the Celestial Church. I even went as far as building a parish myself. My connection with God runs deep. I seek Him everywhere I go,” K1 stated.
In a swift response, a video of Sheikh Sharafudeen Raji Gbadebo surfaced online, addressing the heated controversy. Speaking with bold clarity, the respected Islamic scholar stressed that Islam and Christianity are completely separate faiths.
He firmly stated that anyone attempting to combine both practices is considered a non-believer (Kaafir) according to Islamic teachings a declaration that has since fueled even more intense discussions across social media platforms.
He said:
“Someone is attending Christian vigils and also observes solah (Muslim prayers) in the mosque — tell the person he is a Kaafir (unbeliever). Islam does not endorse being a Muslim and a Christian at the same time. You cannot embrace Islam while following another religion.”
Sheikh Sharafudeen Raji Gbadebo didn’t hold back as he voiced his concerns over the growing wave of religious confusion sweeping through Yorubaland.
He warned that turning to multiple faiths for spiritual guidance only leads believers astray from authentic Islamic principles. His bold comments have ignited even more debate online, deepening the fierce conversation around faith, religious identity, and cultural shifts in Nigeria’s diverse society.
