A gas explosion in Ijora Badia, Lagos, left 15 people injured on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:10 pm, involving a 25kg gas cylinder in a small shop. The shop contained five similar cylinders, and a mishandling of the gas caused a leak that ignited nearby flames, triggering the explosion.

The blast impacted a bungalow with 15 self-contained rooms and seven other shops. According to Margaret Adeseye, Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the injuries sustained ranged from minor to severe.

Authorities rushed to the scene to contain the fire and assist the victims. This alarming incident highlights the dangers of mishandling gas cylinders and serves as a reminder to exercise extreme caution when dealing with such hazardous materials.

“It was a case of poor handling of gas products, which unfortunately allowed gas to escape and come in contact with a flame. This triggered the explosion,” Adeseye stated.

“The resulting fire was swiftly extinguished, and the remains of the gas cylinders were safely evacuated. The danger was completely averted, and normalcy has since returned to the area,” Adeseye added.

A gas explosion in Ijora Badia, Lagos, left 15 people with burn injuries, though fortunately, no lives were lost. The victims, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, received first aid at the scene, and some were taken to hospitals for further care.
