In a powerful move against child trafficking, the Taraba State Government, through its Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, teamed up with NAPTIP to rescue eight trafficked children from Minda Village, Lau LGA. These innocent kids were deceitfully taken to the southeast—Aba, Onitsha, and Imo—under the pretense that they were orphans.
During a press briefing in Jalingo, Commissioner Mary Sinjen revealed that the traffickers were intercepted in Gembu, Sardauna LGA, before they could go further with their illegal mission. After months of investigation and coordinated efforts, the eight children were safely returned and reunited with their biological families in March 2025.
Shockingly, the children confirmed they were sold without their parents’ consent. The primary suspect, a woman named Mrs. Patience, along with several others, is currently in custody as legal actions unfold.
Governor Agbu Kefas has strongly condemned the act, promising that his administration will not tolerate any form of child exploitation. He reiterated his firm commitment to child safety and welfare across the state.
Authorities continue to search for more trafficked children, urging the public to stay alert and report any suspicious behavior. The rescue operation stands as a major win in the fight against human trafficking.
