Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has explained why she chooses not to sign emerging artists, citing the difficulties and responsibilities involved in artist management.
In an interview with Forbes Africa, the “Water and Garri” hitmaker admitted that she doesn’t believe she has the right skills to mentor and oversee musicians under her label. Instead, she prefers to support upcoming talents through other opportunities.
“Everyone always says to me, ‘When are you going to sign an artiste?’ I don’t think I have the gift to sign another artiste, because artistes are stressful. I could just be sleeping, and then I will wake up and my artist is trending for something else,” she said.
The 45-year-old singer revealed her plans to establish a music school to help aspiring musicians refine their talents before joining record labels that can provide them with proper career support.
“But I do have the gift to help, which is why I am trying to do the music school, where you can go and later sign to a label that can actually help you,” she added.
