Renowned Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has addressed a viral video of a marriage negotiation in Mbaise that collapsed after the bride’s family requested N1 million as bride price.
A relative of the groom, who recorded the video, expressed frustration over the demand, leading to the cancellation of the wedding.
Speaking on behalf of his hometown, Mbaise in Imo State, Kanayo clarified that bride prices in the Eastern region of Nigeria vary based on the value families place on their daughters.
In a widely circulated video, he challenged the perception that bride prices and marriage demands in the South East are excessively high.
“Bride price is relative in igbo land And varies from family to family.It is also dependent on the value attracted by the girl….It is not peculiar to ndi Mbaise. Kanayo O Kanayo Ihe Mbaise ji Ka Mba,” he wrote in a caption.
