Nigerian singer Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known as Mr. May D, has sparked online reactions with his recent message to fans who compare him to Wizkid. Known for his hit song “Ile Ijo,” May D took to Twitter to highlight his influence on the Nigerian music industry.
He warned fans and critics against making any comparisons, especially with Wizkid, emphasizing his own unique contributions.
“Don’t ever compare me to anyone in this industry again !! Especially wiz!! I’m a different breed!!! GOD’s baby,” May D wrote.
Amid the controversy over his remarks about Wizkid, Mr. May D recalled when Wizkid sang his song “Too Fine” with Kel.
“I remember when I went to an event and Wizkid was performing my song with kel “too fine” and I was in the crowd I still love him till date but never compare,” he added.
May D rose to fame after signing with Psquare’s Square Records in 2011. However, he left the label in August 2012. He believes his experiences with Psquare significantly influenced his music career.
